We get asked a lot: how does ClientSniper actually work? Here's a transparent look at the technology behind the tool.
The Data Source
ClientSniper pulls business data from Google Maps. When you search for "restaurants in Manchester," we query the same underlying dataset that powers Google Maps results — business names, addresses, phone numbers, ratings, review counts, and crucially, whether a website URL is listed on their profile.
Google's business dataset is the most comprehensive local business database in the world. It's updated constantly by businesses themselves and by Google's own crawlers.
Website Detection
If a business has a website listed, we fetch it and run a series of checks. We test for mobile responsiveness, page load speed, SSL certificate presence, and whether the site returns a valid HTTP response (as opposed to a parked domain or error page).
Based on these checks, we classify the website into one of three categories: Good, Poor, or None. "Poor" websites — those that fail two or more of our checks — are flagged as opportunities alongside businesses with no website at all.
Why This Matters for Lead Quality
Not every "no website" business is a good lead. A business that closed six months ago will show on Maps without a website. We cross-reference listing data to prioritise businesses with recent reviews (indicating active trading) and complete profiles.
Privacy and Compliance
ClientSniper only accesses publicly available data — the same information anyone can see by searching Google Maps manually. We do not access private data, scrape personal email addresses from websites, or store data beyond the scope of your search session.
